Helping to Build a Home

LCDNR staff take a break to pose for a photograph at the end of the day. (L-R: Joe Solebello, Alex Wendorf, Joe Santavicca, Julie Enderby, Steve Gibson, Cindy Claggett, George Bond, and Andrea Weber)

On February 9, Cindy Claggett, Steve Gibson, Joe Santavicca, Andrea Weber, Joe Solebello, George Bond, Alex Wendorf and myself put on our tool belts and joined the fantastic team at Habitat for Humanity (in Loveland) to build homes for the community. We worked alongside future homeowners, Habitat for Humanity staff, and long-term volunteers to help get them a little closer to completing a safe, comfortable place for someone to call home.

We spent the day putting up drywall and trim which may not sound like fun, but it really was! Some of us learned a new skill, some brought their experience with them, but we all shared what we could offer. It was hard work but very rewarding.

All of us showed how dedicated DNR staff are to working hard as a team and supporting our community. We left feeling that our time and effort were appreciated with an invitation to come back. We can’t wait to do it again because we had a blast!

I learned a lot about Habitat for Humanity and the great work they do. I was also reminded of the positive effect taking some time to give back to your community can have on a person. I’m grateful we were given the opportunity to volunteer as DNR and hope we, as an organization, continue to find ways to give back to the community who supports us.
