ABOUT COMPASS

OUR GUIDING PATH

How We Got Here and Where We’re Going

COMPASS is a strategic roadmap that serves as a guide for all Larimer County Department of Natural Resources work.

Dedicated internal planning to build COMPASS began in late 2021. Partnering with hrQ, an external consultant, the process began by hosting staff focus group info sessions, interviews, and an engagement platform to collect input from all levels of staff.

A core team then convened in early 2022 to take the robust collection of input and curate the new mission, vision, and values followed by several leading priorities. An internal naming contest was held in spring 2022, with COMPASS winning out as the plan name, which helped launch our first ever department strategic plan.

A touchstone for the future of the Larimer County Department of Natural Resources, COMPASS acts as a guiding path of strategic priorities, goals, and actions buoyed by a new mission, vision, and set of values.

Adopted in 2022, a shared department-wide effort brought COMPASS to life, a first for the department. It serves as a catalyst to align everyday individual work with six broad strategic priorities.

COMPASS engages by convening Priority Teams and employing a shared virtual communications tool to build project transparency across the department, collaboration, and decision-making.

COMPASS will guide us through 2027, spanning both internal departmental and external public outcomes.

We’re all in it together… the value of our strategic plan, COMPASS, is that it aligns us around those key outcomes we identified as a team. ”
