Pinewood rescue showcases quick actions

By: Hannah Beam, Ranger

Now that spring has arrived, more recreators are out and about in our areas to enjoy their favorite activity outdoors. This early April, one quick acting Pinewood visitor and the effective response of rangers ended up saving a life.

A 911 call was placed for a single male in a kayak who had capsized into the 40 degree water at Pinewood Reservoir. Other recreators on site helped bring him to shore and attempted to warm him as hypothermia was setting in.

Rangers then arrived followed by firefighters who furthered the warming efforts. The man was transported to the hospital and later released.

The actions of the recreators, ranger team, and other first responders at Pinewood likely saved his life.

Responders and bystanders help bring the rescued visitor from the water to an ambulance.
